COVID Cautious Pool Party

We’ve rented a fabulous, large pool secluded away from most of Portland in the SW hills for the afternoon of August 3rd. The pool offers grassy space to sun, a pool deck, some shaded spots to get out of the heat. The pool is heated (though I doubt we’ll need it) and there’s a hot tub, floating toys, speakers and a grill. The bathroom is located inside the house,  but we are placing an air purifier in there, and the hosts understand everyone will mask going in and out of the house. Here’s how the afternoon will break down.

12pm-1:25pm Masked Pool Time

Everyone will keep their masks on (N95s, please) from the time you exit your car to the time you return to it. If you need to grab a drink or take your mask off, you are requested to move 20 feet away from the group (there’s room for that!).

1:35-3pm  Unmasked Pool Time

Attendees for this portion of the afternoon will need to molecular test between noon and 1:30pm, using either a PlusLife or Metrix test, on video chat with the host for the test setup and the results. Rules around testing will be very strict, since this is a trust exercise between one another, and those who rely on these results probably won’t be offended at the strictness. If you receive a negative test, you can attend the unmasked pool time. You are still welcome to mask during this time, but would still need to test. During this second portion, drinks and food are welcome, we may grill, and proximity to others should be expected, though you can set your own boundaries. This is the first time we’re attempting an unmasked event, so at every step, we’ll be transparent with one another, and I will work to make the testing portion as fair but as reliable as possible.

For everyone

You’ll buy a ticket for one time slot or the other, or can buy a ticket for both, acknowledging that you’ll need to mask for the first portion and test to attend the second portion. This event is 18+.

From the driveway, there are three steps up to the gate into the backyard. Again, the bathroom is located inside the home, and requires a step up into the home.  The pool itself has a few steps at the entry.

The entire event will take place outside, but the pool may be booked immediately before and after our event by people who will likely not be masked. I will work to ensure everyone has space to enter and exit in a safe way.  Please do not arrive early for this reason. Directions provided the day of the event.
